Gratitude is a cornerstone of my philosophy—not only in my coaching practice, but also in my own personal life! After stumbling upon it two years ago, almost by accident, I am still amazed at the beneficial effects that it’s had for me: a more positive outlook every single day, deeper connection with my loved ones, better work opportunities, increased stress management, and the confidence to face any struggle!
Through my many conversations with dozens of women on a weekly basis, one of the things that keeps resurfacing is how implementing a solid gratitude practice can be difficult and disorienting. It’s not that they don’t realize its benefits, but without structure and support, it can be hard to create the proper momentum.
This is why I was inspired to create the Gratitude Practice Companion, a 7-week training series to help you implement a sustainable gratitude practice, so that you can reap all of its transformative benefits—not only now, but for the rest of your life!
For years, I would look at others around me and marvel at how lucky some were. You know what I mean? It seemed that whatever they took on, it would turn for the best! What did they have that I was missing? What was their secret? It wasn’t until I took on my own gratitude practice—reluctantly at first, I’m fully willing to admit—that I suddenly saw all these positive things, all this luck, suddenly start showing up in my life: I became more sought-after professionally, I was suddenly able to take on new, exciting projects, and my confidence skyrocketed.
Then in 2015, I was really able to put it to the test: I was laid off of a position I’d held for a decade, and in which I had found a lot of my identity. I could have been devastated. In fact, had this happened just a few years before, I would have been sent into a spiral of fear and self-doubt. Instead—and I wholeheartedly credit gratitude for allowing me to react this way—I immediately saw this as a tremendous opportunity for change, decided to be extremely thankful for the opportunity, and went on to create Wholly Fabi.
Countless studies have shown that people who are consistently grateful are also more energetic and forgiving, and display more emotional intelligence, in addition to being less susceptible to depression, anxiety and loneliness.
But here’s the clincher: They’re not grateful because they’re happy. Instead, gratitude is a significant cause of the many positive outcomes that befall them!
In fact, a 2005 study published in American Psychologist showed that participants who wrote three things for which they were grateful each day for a week were demonstrably happier and less depressed at the one-month, three-month and six-month checkups!
Why? Because taking up a gratitude practice is basically training the human brain to actively and consistently seek the positive, and since the brain is more attuned to it, it finds it increasingly easily! Now doesn’t that sound appealing?
